  1. …Second Generation Nissan LEAFs will be a serious contender for first time EV buyers who opt for pre-owned. The NMC batteries in those models, after the “heat fix” are expected to last [3,000 to 5,000 cycles.](https://www.onecharge.biz/blog/lfp-lithium-batteries-live-longer-than-nmc/) For the 40 kWh LEAF, that’s 450,000 miles or more (with the 62 kWh substantially higher). Models using LFP are great, but they will continue to have higher prices, and keep people with more limited budgets out of the EV market.

Supporting a bit more CHAdeMO deployment makes sense to enable more trips for folks classically tied to jalopies with terrible emissions. A cheap 2018 LEAF in 2026 will be a hell of a lot better for the world than a decaying 2017 Chevy Trax.

  2. They’re doing the same up here in the bay. They shut down a location here back in July that had max 50-100kW cabinets. I didn’t see which handles were present, but they looked to have added the newer Signet cabinets.

Of note, it was only supposed to be down for 6 weeks. It’s been 9 weeks so far.

  3. hey, folks! Thanks for all the replies! I’ve learned a lot from this and am sort of glad it turned into a lesson on CHAdeMO. there was some great contribution from fellow EV nerds, and I always love learning new things, especially when they go against my previously held understanding.

  4. CHADEMO is specific to Pacific rim vehicles, like Nissan.

It’ll be around for a while yet.

BTW; CHADEMO is a joke name. The team that created the fast charging connector teased the other staff about the slow charging option they had to use by saying “You must come back much later, we’re only going for a cup of tea” (or words to that effect)

CHADEMO basically means, “Let’s have tea.”

  5. I use Chademo all the time with my Model Y. Only because there isn’t a readily available CCS Tesla adapter. It’s frustrating when there’s only 1 Chademo plug at a charging station and it’s occupied by someone using the CCS plug. So this is much appreciated.

  6. If I recall correctly, EA made an announcement that they would no longer install new Chademo heads. Many media outlets basically ran with that and announced the death of Chademo, but the truth is, no other fast charging providers have made such a commitment. It just so happens that Chademo is useful to both Leaf and Tesla owners, and since Tesla is the #1 selling EV in the US, it makes sense to keep including them in the lineup.

  7. Total installations is continuing up, though now not as fast as CCS. Everything is relative. In 2019 when I road tripped my Plus, EA was my only choice for Chademo stops and highly risky. Now in 2022 I have multiple chademo choices at my stops across Iowa, MO, and Kansas.
