NASCAR Began With A Man | Sports Cars

William France was the man known to nail the title who invented NASCAR. However, the racing of stock cars did not begin upon the foundation of NASCAR, it occurred long before. It was even in history that rum runners and bootleggers raced each other in the Appalachian mountain. But when William France Sr. moved from Washington, DC to Daytona Beach to escape from the Great Depression in 1935, he got involved in the racing and nailed the fifth place.

Being an avid fan of fast cars and a professional mechanic, the races at Daytona inspired him to run the course beginning in 1938 and he began employing more drivers to participate. The development of NASCAR continued with several races until the World War II brought the car racing to a temporary standstill. During the war, people brought their convertibles, coupes, sports cars and hardtops to overseas to race. Worst still, the cars and parts supply was inclined as most of the productions went to military supplies.

After the war come to a halt, France continued striving towards his car racing career. He, who invented NASCAR, was observant with the racing system. He witnessed that certain cars which were more superior in mechanical, dominate the open-format races, disregard of the drivers’ skills. During that time, he had already become a veteran and he realized that several promoters went off bagging the race purses without compensating the drivers. As such, he aimed to build an organization that serves to the welfare of drives and strengthening the car racing rules.

France then carried on with the development of NASCAR by conducting a discussion between him and few of the famous racers. He expressed that his connotation that stock car races should utilize basic model cars where people could buy at the local automobile shops. He also made a record of points system for the NASCAR wins during a conversation in Daytona Beach. For two months, he worked to set up regulations and practices and completed the first charter on 21st February 1948. Although being rejected when he sought for support of his venture, he built the association and set the racing awards and rules himself.
