File this in the “obviously” category, but Porsche today showed off a GTS version of the Cayenne SUV that’ll debut at the 2014 LA Auto Show. Like other GTS models, the Cayenne GTS comes with some options that you’d normally check when building your own Cayenne, including Porsche’s Active Suspension Management that lowers the car by 20mm over stock. Are the changes what a buyer is looking for in the Cayenne?
A 3.6L twin-turbo V6 with direct injection powers the Cayenne GTS, making 440 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. Porsche hasn’t announced 0-60 or top speed numbers, but expect them to be better than the S version of the Cayenne. A traditional 8-speed automatic is on-hand for gear changes, and not Porsche’s PDK gearbox.
The Cayenne GTS shares many external design cues with the Cayenne Turbo, giving it a more aggressive appearance over more pedestrian Cayennes. Black interior accents and darkened wheels give it a racy appearance. While we have no doubt that Porsche will sell many of them, we’re not sure if some SUV buyers are going to want to purchased a lowered, more race-focused version of the vehicle. What do you think?
