Back in the dark days of the automotive industry, the folks at Cummins were working with Ram Trucks on a new engine to power their full-size pickup truck. They had most of the details worked out. It’d be a 5.0L V8 turbodiesel. It’d make a generous amount of torque. It would be a match made in heaven. Then Ram’s parent company went bankrupt. The bankruptcy killed the deal. … [Read more…]

The folks over at Green Car Journal choose a Green Truck of the Year each year, and this year they selected the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. While all the hoopla this year is about the Ford F-150 and its aluminum construction, it’s important to remember that Ram is still the only company currently offering a diesel engine option in their 150/1500 series trucks. It’s also no surprise … [Read more…]

Now that we’ve seen both the 2015 Challenger Hellcat and the 2015 Charger Hellcat, the next question is “what next?” During FCA’s investor day announcements way back in May, it was made clear that Dodge would be the performance brand, and the SRT performance vehicles would be limited to the Dodge nameplate. I was fortunate enough to attend this year’s Woodward Dream Cruise, and the fine folks at Ram put me in the Ram Rumble Bee concept for the weekend. They also provided transportation to and from Detroit by way of a 2014 Ram 1500 Big Horn crew cab 4×4. While I didn’t get to spend a great deal of time in the truck, here are a few things I learned from my time behind the … [Read more…]

Last year for the 10th anniversary of the Ram Rumble Bee, Ram took a 2013 1500 R/T and converted it into a modern interpretation of the truck popularized over a decade ago. For this year’s Woodward Dream Cruise, which occurred this past weekend in the suburbs of Detroit, Ram let us borrow the truck to go cruising for the weekend. I had a great time, and while a full review (and … [Read more…]

Recently, we had the opportunity to sample the Truck of Texas winning Ram 1500 EcoDiesel at Knibbe Ranch just outside San Antonio, Texas, and we were impressed with the vehicle. The 2014 version of the Ram features a 5-link coil rear-suspension, and our test version was also fitted with the optional air suspension. In addition to the suspension technology, the EcoDiesel … [Read more…]
