Have you ever noted that teachers and educators work very hard to find niches for students to help in their learning? That is to say they try to find something that the student excels at, something they like to do, and then they let them go learning on their own. When the students do this and they find that special thing and it is amazing how it changes their outlook. It seems to transfer into everything else they do, and it is this type of passion which works throughout life, not just with kids.
Now then, let’s say you are laid off and you don’t have a job. You have several hobbies, and things you like to do, of course they all cost lots of money. But why can’t you take your hobby and turn it into a new business concept, starting a small business of your own? You can, and you should. Let’s say you love to race cars, and I mentioned that because I do too. Well, there are all sorts of ways to make money racing cars, and there is a lot of money in the racing industry.
Not long ago, I met an individual that makes custom alloy pistons which are light weight, but very strong. He can take almost any car and boost its performance and its MPG rating significantly just by changing out the pistons and rods, plus using a new firing timing algorithm. The car has better acceleration, better fuel mileage, and it turns it into a race car. So he is making money in an industry that he loves to participate in as well.
If you really enjoy racing cars, maybe you might like to teach people and start a race car driving school, giving people lessons and coaching them on how to drive their sports car. Over the years, I’ve attended several superbike courses for racing motorcycles. I like to race motorcycles too, and I’ve always thought to myself that the folks who are teaching the superbike courses have the best job in the world. They get to hang out at the track all day and race constantly. Several of them have gotten so good from so much practice that they now have factory sponsorship.
Why couldn’t you do the same thing racing cars? You might even find ancillary ways to make money such as selling people safety equipment, or referring them to companies selling cars or high-performance parts. Just a thought, and it really doesn’t matter what you do, or what you have passion for, there’s always a way to make money if you will think about it. People have needs and wants, and if you can provide those products or services for them, they will be willing to pay you for it.
